Summer Resolutions versus Summer Delusions

It is that time of the year again! The one we’ve been looking forward to. Summer is here! You can tell it either by how warmly the sun kisses your skin or by super boring headlines lecturing about how to get the perfect bikini body for summer. I am wondering if there was ever a time that people were not being dictated to be perfect.

What is perfect? For what should we reach it? The next time they’ll write down these articles, I hope they give us proper answers.

This one-sided perfectionism disease seems to get a hold of everybody. People used to make resolutions for themselves, but now they make resolutions to be approved by people they have never met and seen before. Do not do this to yourself ladies and gentlemen. Will you really let this nonsense get the best of you? Will you waste the sunny days of summer trying to be what shape-obsessed media culture wants you to be? If so, you must be deluded. Please, have a look at yourself in the mirror. Now, are you aware that there is only one you? You’re so beautiful inside and out. No one can be you, nor can you be someone else.  It is a special feeling to know that you’re unique, isn’t it? 🙂

“Hot to get six packs, Make your butt bigger, Tips for fuller lips …..etc” Why can’t we read any proper article regarding how summer affects our mood? Why can’t we see men and women with different body shapes and sizes on the magazine more often? Why does it always have to be about how we look?

There are tons of exercise plans and beauty tips on the magazines, especially for WOMEN. It’s interesting because the last time I checked there was another gender on earth. Unfortunately, whenever I want to read a magazine, celebs with big bums are everywhere as if they owe their unrealistic hips to squats. I don’t need to look like them since what I need is not a big bum but a big brain and a happy soul. I do exercise every morning and run every now and then. I do it to stay healthy not to have a “fabulous” bikini body. Because no matter how hard I train, there will always be someone out there who will find me fat, ugly, shapeless…etc.  So instead of fitting in, why don’t we give in to our real selves? Summer is not the time to get in shape, it is the time to sunbathe and have fun on the beach and celebrate the life with your friends.

The mass media wants to create a “perfect” aka a “sexy bombshell without a brain” out of us. There two types of women according to them, 1- Sex kitten who knows how to stay beautiful and sexy for 24 hours, 2- Queen of housework such as laundry, cooking and cleaning. Ah, tragic! Well, let’s send our very sincere feelings to them, shall we? So unless you are okay with them trying to steal your intelligence and twist it into a figure obsessed mechanism, kick all the debasing desires they have on your body out. Join me in my summer empowerment movement 🙂

Ladies and gentleman, I may have the best summer resolutions for you!

  • Spend more time on things you like.
  • Swim, run, dance! Have your own workout routine, that way you can have more fun.
  • Spoil your tummy, eat that ice-cream!
  • Drink wine with your besties and make travel plans.
  • Listen to yourself to set your goals.
  • Do things just to make yourself proud and happy.
